Season of Giving

Ideas from Katherine Saux, November 2006 Science of Mind magazine.

By now most of us are well into preparations for the Christmas season.

We are being bombarded with advertisements promoting this or that as the perfect gift.

Thanksgiving seems long past and far away as we get into the annual debate about whether we’ll send Christmas cards and to whom.

Our shopping lists may have become laden with gifts of obligation and duty; this relative or that friend and a special coworker or service provider all need to be recognized.

When advertising hits this frantic stride, perhaps the concept of giving becomes defined by what we can purchase and wrap; however the law of giving and receiving is more profound and personal than the exchange of material possessions.

If, as A course in Miracles teaches, Spirit knows no difference between having and being, then our greatest gift is offering the best of who we are—in friendship, in caring, in service, in listening, in all the little acts of kindness and love of which we are capable.

Wouldn’t we much rather have a friend’s understanding and support while we speak our hearts’ joy or pain than have a new bottle of perfume?

Don’t misunderstand me, presents are great, especially when they come from the heart and are given with joy, but the real season of giving is year-round.

The greatest gift is one’s self.

Be generous.

Suggested Affirmations:

I rejoice in knowing I am a gift of God.

I give that gift generously.

That gift is returned ten-fold to me.

Let’s spend ALL of our $119,000

remembering what is really important to purchase

and what is most important to give !

'Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened'
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
http://www.judysartadventures.com/
Thanks once again for your continued interest in my artistic gifts and passion for animals, travel and nature
(it’s a pleasure sharing photographs, drawings, egg carvings, urns and more)!

This hand scrimshawed powder horn will be a gift this Christmas to the dear sister of one of my most ardent art fans, so it seems fitting that I share it with you during this holiday season. On one side is a beloved pet Lynx named Scratch (note the natural heart below the lynx) and on the other is Spirit her cat. I placed them so she can hang the powder horn on a wall and reverse it to see each animal.
The recipient says, “Your reproduction of the images of Spirit and Scratch are wonderfully exacting and I know that my Sister will be thrilled!”

Once again for a time you can also see their pictures on my website home page, too.
Please feel free to pass my blog and website information on to others like yourself who enjoy my creations.
As always if you would like your Judith K. Nelson artwork spotlighted, please let me know. I would do a “special edition newsletter” just for you!

ME as the HOTEL

Recently a friend shared this idea which seems a great ~get back on track~ tool/analogy/visualization. He says he uses it when his life feels out of control whether it’s about money or life in general.

“I imagine that I am a modern, shiny, luxurious high rise hotel.

In the darkened lobby, chaos is happening!

My fears, problems, concerns, apprehensions, thoughts of lack

are all running about in noisy pandemonium.

Since the hotel IS me and

knowing all that has ever happened or is going to happen is occurring simultaneously or vertically,

I decide to remove myself from this bedlam, taking the elevator up.

As I begin to push the elevator button, I stop and ask myself,

“Why stop midway, but instead why not go all the way up to the penthouse suite?”

As the elevator doors open I am already warmed by the sunshine pouring into the hallway.

A whole new perspective about all the turmoil that may be going on below

is provided by the magnificent view from the window.

I take my time and bask in this tranquility, realizing I can at any time—

choose to simply turn my back on apparent circumstances,

and instead know that this is the Truth!

What a comfort knowing as well that the elevator is inoperable to anyone, anything, any thought other than for my GOOD…

…available ALL the time!”

Suggested Affirmations:

I keep my focus calmly on the peace in the present moment.

I give with love and joy and I receive with gratitude and thanksgiving.

Truth is always within me.

Let’s spend ALL $118,000 on our ride to the PENTHOUSE SUITE !

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Thanks once again for your continued interest in my artistic gifts and passion for animals, travel and nature

(it’s a pleasure sharing photographs, drawings, egg carvings, urns and more)!

I recently finished these two drawings for one of my most enthusiastic friend/clients!

Monique has a heart for dogs bigger than I can describe, having taken in so many that the world has discarded. Her motto just might be similar to the quote above, having more than a handful living with her son, husband and herself!

She has special pet nicknames for each of them and when they pass on she always pays special tribute to them usually with a poem of her own.

Below you will see two of those precious souls.

Monique writes: Barnie (AKA: Bubba, Bubbalinski, Fat Feets and Smooshie) was our first and most precious boy in our world. He is the reason I found AZ Basset Hound Rescue (AZBHR) and the reason I have volunteered for shelters and AZBHR for 9 years now. He was spoiled rotten and knew it and had us very well trained from 12/13/1990 until his last breath on 7/10/2003. I still long to hear him howl and feel his velvety ears!

Baylie (AKA: Goose Chest, Pretty Girl and Baylor Butts) was our first foster with AZBHR and our first “Foster Failure”…..we failed Fostering 101 in about 5 minutes and adopted her in September 2000. She was “used” for breeding in Tucson for 5 years before she had a forever home with us. She was our Queen and our Alpha Girl and kept our pack of Bassets in line at all times. She has been sorely missed since 9/8/2008. She was a fighter, beating cancer for 13 months…..far surpassing all the Vets predictions……she was such a good girl!

I want to thank Judy, my dear friend, who keeps their memories soooo alive in their portraits and in their gorgeous urns. Her artwork is like a little miracle for my heart and I love you Judy. Thank you for always being my healer and helping me through my grief work in life with my losses. Your brilliant hands and eyes shine through in your work and keep my “kids” alive in me forever!

Especially at this time of year I am so grateful for everything the universe has given me. My family, my husband, my beautiful son and our four rescued Basset Hounds, but I am most grateful for having a job and a home and friends like Judy who are always there for me! Happy Thanksgiving. All My Love and More……..Monique (your biggest fan!).

Here are thoughts from another ‘essay’ to ponder… from The Science of Mind, August 2005 by Rev. Carrie Masters

Giving and Receiving!

We live in a reciprocal universe. Whatever is given is received. Whatever is received is given. Giving and receiving are two aspects of the same law in action. Giving opens the channels letting us receive more. When we give, we live in our natural state of being.

Each day we witness the giving nature of life when we open the tap and watch water splash into our sink or flip an electric switch that gives us light. We give of ourselves daily in our silent blessings, caring for someone who is ill, giving blood, or raising children.

Receiving allows us to fill up the channels opened through our giving. When we receive, we are accepting all the good that is flowing to us through infinite God channels.

Giving and receiving is also about caring for ourselves. When we give our body proper nutrition, playful activity, and time for rest we receive good health. When we take time to connect with Spirit through meditation and affirmative prayer, we receive peace and spiritual nourishment. When we give and receive, we are demonstrating our faith in God’s abundant universe.

Suggested Affirmations:

I am blessed by the action of giving and receiving.

I give with love and joy and I receive with gratitude and thanksgiving.

My life is full and overflowing.

With the complete audacity to trust a Higher Power regardless of seeming appearances, let’s spend ALL $117,000 knowing that SPIRIT IS TRUSTWORTHY !

GREETINGS!!

Thanks once again for your continued interest in my artistic gifts and passion for animals, travel and nature

(it’s a pleasure sharing photographs, drawings, egg carvings, urns and more)!

I recently received the sad news that one of my long time favorite friends has passed. She taught me perhaps as much as anyone in my entire life because she was very much in all ways her own unique self. Initially her self assuredness intimidated me until I learned to truly appreciate and enjoy her idiosyncrasies. We had one of those bonds that remained strong no matter the time or distance between us.

In tribute to her I’m sharing not only an ink sketch of her that I did for her in 1997 to use as a logo, but also a 1999 pencil drawing of her beloved cats.

Once again for a time you can also see the cats’ picture on my website home page, too.
